Makeup Lesson Ho Chi Minh City for Foreigners: 1-to-1 Training

By the Vietnam Makeup Artist team · 2026-11-06

We offer 1-to-1 makeup training in English for international clients at Cáo MakeUp in Ho Chi Minh City, with sessions running 2–4 hours depending on your goals. Each lesson covers foundation matching for your undertone, blending techniques that hold in humidity, product choice for Vietnam's climate, and personalized practice on your own face. You'll learn how to prep skin for longevity, select primers and setting sprays that work in tropical heat, and adapt looks from photos or bridal inspiration. Sessions are tailored: beginners start with basics; experienced makeup wearers focus on technique refinement or specific looks. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp—cost depends on length, location (at our studio or your hotel), and whether you book multiple sessions. No prior makeup knowledge required; bring a photo of a look you love. Book on WhatsApp +84 338 762 340

What's different about makeup lessons for foreigners in tropical Vietnam?

Makeup for Ho Chi Minh City requires techniques most international courses never teach. Heat and humidity destabilize foundation and eye makeup within hours unless you use climate-specific primers, waterproof formulas, and layering methods designed for moisture. We teach you which product textures (powders vs. creams, matte vs. dewy bases) fail in tropical conditions and why gel-based products outperform oil-based ones once temperatures rise. A foreigner arriving from a cool climate often discovers that their home makeup routine—heavy powders, cream blushes, standard primers—slides off by noon. Our lessons show you how to rebuild your routine using products and techniques that survive Vietnam's heat while keeping skin breathable and natural-looking.

How long does a lesson take and what's included?

A typical 2-hour session covers foundation matching, skin prep, full face application, and one technique deep-dive (contouring, eye shaping, lip colour). A 3-hour lesson adds product education—we show you how to read ingredient lists, test for staying power, and build a travel-sized makeup kit. A 4-hour session includes two looks (everyday and dressed-up), product shopping guidance, and time to practise on your own face while we correct in real time. Each lesson includes a consultation before booking to confirm your goals: are you learning for daily wear, a special event, or because you're frustrated with makeup failing in humidity? We answer questions throughout—there are no dumb questions in a 1-to-1 setting. The lesson concludes with a written summary of what you learned, including product names and application sequence, so you can recreate looks at home.

Should you choose a lesson, a trial, or group training?

A 1-to-1 makeup class suits you if you want personalized attention, work at your own pace, and prefer learning in English one-on-one. Trials are pre-event consultations (usually 1 hour before a wedding or photoshoot) to test a look and make adjustments; they're not teaching sessions. Group lessons are rare but possible for 2–3 friends; they cost less per person but mean less individual practice time. Compare your options:

A lesson teaches skills you own forever; a trial tests a single look for a single day. Choose a lesson if you live in Vietnam or visit for 1+ months and want to upskill; choose a trial if you're here for an event and want a professional to execute one look.

What should you prepare and bring to your lesson?

Arrive with a clean, moisturized face—no makeup—and bring any makeup products you already own and want to learn with. Bring a phone or tablet with 5–10 photos of makeup looks you like (celebrity, editorial, social media—anything). Wear a shirt or top you can change out of easily; makeup can transfer. If you have sensitive skin, eczema, or allergies, tell us before booking so we can plan product selection. Bring water and a snack if you prefer—a 3–4 hour lesson involves focus and can be tiring. We'll provide makeup remover, cotton pads, and brushes; you'll take home notes on what you learned. If you're preparing for an event (wedding, photoshoot, gala), book at least 1–2 weeks ahead so you have time to source any new products we recommend and practise the technique once before the event.

Where do lessons happen and how do we handle Vietnam's heat and humidity?

Most lessons occur at our studio in Ho Chi Minh City; we can also teach at your hotel room if you prefer. A hotel setting means we control the air conditioning and your comfort, which is essential during a 3–4 hour session in humid conditions. We bring all teaching products and brushes; you use your own face as the canvas. Our studio has mirrors with good natural and artificial light (essential for accurate colour matching), air conditioning, and a washable demo head if you want to practise technique on something other than your face during the session. We teach you how to maintain makeup in the heat: humidity-proofing techniques, touch-up methods for mid-day, and which products degrade fastest so you know what to replace first. If you're also booking hotel makeup or getting ready for an event in Vietnam, we can connect lesson learning to your real event timeline.

How do we match makeup undertones for Western and mixed skin in Ho Chi Minh City?

Undertone matching is the top mistake foreigners make—they choose foundation by depth alone, ignoring whether their undertone is warm (yellow, golden, red), cool (pink, blue), or neutral (balanced). We assess your undertone by looking at your skin in natural light, examining your veins on your wrist, and testing 3–5 foundation shades on your jawline and neck. For Western skin (pale to medium, often cool undertones), we often find that warm foundations sold locally don't match; for deeper and mixed skin tones, the range is narrower and requires careful blending or mixing. A lesson includes this assessment so you leave knowing your true undertone and can shop independently afterward. We teach you how to read foundation descriptions (many don't state undertone) and test before buying. Humidity amplifies undertone mismatch—a cool-undertone foundation that looks ashy in cool air looks worse in tropical heat because oil and sweat shift colour. We show you primer and setting techniques that stabilize undertone and keep your base looking fresh.

What to check before you book a 1-to-1 makeup lesson

Before booking, confirm:

  • Language. Do you want the lesson in English? We teach in English; confirm this when you message us.
  • Duration. How many hours do you have? Aim for at least 2 hours; 3–4 is ideal for skill-building.
  • Location. Studio or hotel? Studio is our controlled environment; hotel requires us to travel (ask us for a quote on WhatsApp).
  • Your goals. Are you learning everyday makeup, prepping for an event, or trying a specific technique (contouring, eyeshadow blending, lip art)? Tell us so we prep the right products and pacing.
  • Skin type and concerns. Oily, dry, combination, sensitive? Do you have acne, rosacea, or deep skin tones? We adapt techniques and product choices.
  • Products you own. Do you want to use your existing makeup, or do we source teaching products for you? (We can do both; ask about options.)
  • Timing. Book 2–4 weeks ahead if possible—this gives time for follow-up and product sourcing. Last-minute bookings are possible; ask us.
  • Photos and inspiration. Have you narrowed down a style, or do you want us to guide you? Bring reference images.

Red flags to avoid:

  • Don't assume foundation matching will take 5 minutes—undertone assessment alone takes 15–20 minutes and sets up the entire lesson's success.
  • Don't skip the skin-prep discussion; humidity amplifies mistakes in primer and moisturizer choice.
  • Don't book a lesson the day before a major event; book 1–2 weeks ahead so you can practise at home and build confidence.
  • Don't expect one lesson to make you a professional makeup artist; our goal is to teach you a skill set and technique you can refine.

What we'll ask you when you message:

  • How many hours can you dedicate?
  • What's your main goal (everyday wear, event prep, upskilling, confidence)?
  • Do you have any skin concerns (sensitivity, acne, rosacea, oily/dry)?
  • What's your colour undertone roughly (warm, cool, or unsure)?
  • Do you wear makeup now, or is this your first time?
  • When would you like to book? (So we check availability and give you a realistic quote.)

Honesty upfront saves time and ensures we design a lesson tailored to you, not a generic class.

Do you offer makeup lessons with other services?

Yes. A 1-to-1 makeup class can combine with a bridal makeup trial, photoshoot makeup session, or event makeup booking. Many clients take a lesson 2–4 weeks before their event, then book a professional makeup session on the day itself—the lesson builds confidence and teaches you touch-up techniques so you can maintain your look. If you're in Ho Chi Minh City for a holiday and want a skill refresher plus a special-occasion look, we can design a package that covers both. We also offer Korean-style makeup lessons if that's your inspiration, hair styling lessons if you want to pair makeup with hair technique, or lessons for every skin type if you have specific concerns (deep tones, mature skin, textured skin). Contact us on WhatsApp to discuss combining services into one visit.

FAQ

Can I do a makeup lesson if I've never worn makeup before?

Absolutely. We start with skin prep, product basics, and simple application. No experience is required. We move at your pace and spend time on fundamentals until you feel confident.

How much does a 1-to-1 makeup lesson cost?

Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp. Cost depends on length (2–4 hours), location (studio or hotel), and whether you're buying teaching products or using your own makeup.

Will the makeup techniques you teach me survive Ho Chi Minh City's humidity all day?

We teach heat and humidity-proofing methods—primer layering, waterproof product selection, and setting spray technique. Nothing is 100% foolproof for 12+ hours in high heat, but our methods extend wear significantly and teach you quick touch-up fixes for mid-day.

Can I book a makeup lesson and a hotel makeup session for the same trip?

Yes. Many clients book a 3–4 hour lesson early in their stay, then book hotel makeup or event makeup for the actual event day. This builds confidence and ensures your look is executed professionally when it counts.

What if I have deep or mixed skin tones—can you match my undertone accurately?

Yes. Undertone matching for deeper and mixed skin requires more foundation shades and careful assessment. We teach you undertone identification, how to test and blend, and how to source shade ranges that work for you in Vietnam.

Do I need to buy new makeup products to take a lesson?

No. You can use makeup you already own. We'll recommend products during the lesson if your current ones don't suit the climate or your goals; you decide what to buy afterward.

How far in advance should I book a lesson?

2–4 weeks is ideal, so you have time to source any recommended products and practise at home. Last-minute bookings are possible; message us to check availability.
