Makeup class Ho Chi Minh City for foreigners: learn our technique

By the Vietnam Makeup Artist team · 2026-11-06

We offer 1-to-1 makeup classes in English for foreigners at our Ho Chi Minh City studio (Hanoi by arrangement). Each session runs 2–4 hours depending on your goals—bridal, photoshoot, everyday looks, or Korean-style technique. You learn on your own face or a model's, using professional products we supply. We teach heat and humidity survival (essential in Vietnam), undertone matching for mixed and Western skin, and custom looks. The class is practical: you apply makeup while we guide, correct, and show advanced tricks. Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp—pricing depends on session length and group size. Bring photos of looks you love; we'll adapt technique to your features and what you want to achieve.

What does a makeup class session actually include?

A 1-to-1 class starts with a skin and undertone assessment—we check your natural tone, texture, sun exposure, and whether you lean warm, cool, or neutral. We then discuss your goals: bridal prep, event look, everyday confidence, or photoshoot readiness. You'll practice foundation matching, concealer blending, eye technique (shadow, liner, blending), blush and contour placement, lip application, and setting for humidity. We demonstrate on you first, then guide your hands on your own face. We provide all products (makeup and tools); you take home written notes with product names and step order. No rush, no filler—we stop when you're confident and the look holds.

Why does makeup melt in Ho Chi Minh City heat?

Humidity and heat break down makeup on two levels: sweat dissolves primers and bases, and oil oxidizes foundation pigments, causing separation and color shift. Standard temperate-zone makeup—loose powders, water-based primers, light foundations—fails within 30 minutes outdoors in 35°C and 80%+ humidity. We teach humidity-proof technique: oil-control prep (mattifying primer, setting spray before foundation), long-wear formulas, pressed powders instead of loose, strategic blotting, and sweat-resistant setting layers. We also teach you which product types (silicone vs. water-based) stay put longest. For events and bridal work, we use specific setting sprays and powder sequences that lock makeup for 8+ hours in tropical heat. This is not generic makeup—it's climate-specific, and it's what separates professional work in Vietnam from technique that works in temperate climates only.

How do you match undertones for mixed and Western skin?

Undertone matching is where most makeup courses fail: they teach "warm, cool, neutral" but don't explain how to see it on deeper, olive, or mixed skin. We assess undertone by checking vein color (blue/purple = cool; green/golden = warm; both = neutral), natural hair and eye pigments, and how your skin reacts to sun (burns red vs. tans golden). For Western skin, cool undertones often show clear vein contrast; for deeper skin, olive is common (green undertones), which many brands don't address. We show you how to test foundation on your jawline in daylight, not under studio lights, and what "match" actually means (no ashy cast, no orange shift, neck and face blend). Mixed skin often has undertone variance—darker neck, lighter face, or patchy areas. We teach you to blend across zones and choose undertones that harmonize, not vanish, your natural tone. You leave knowing how to shop and why a foundation that works for your friend won't work for you.

What's the difference between a class and a trial for your wedding?

ServiceWho it's forTimingOutcomeWhat to check
Makeup classLearn technique for life2–4 hours, scheduled anytimeSkills, confidence, notes to repeat at homeDo you want to apply your own makeup, or learn pro tricks?
Bridal trialBride or bridesmaid prep1–2 hours, usually 2–8 weeks before eventLock in the look, test products on your skinDoes the look survive your wedding-day timeline and climate?
Wedding-day makeupProfessional service1–2 hours morning-of at your locationDone for you, flawless, heat-proofWho's first, when does hair finish, where's the light source?

A class teaches you to do makeup; a trial locks in our look for your wedding day. Many clients do both: trial to see our work, class to learn touch-up technique for the reception. Plan your wedding-day look if you're engaged; choose a class if you want to build skill.

How do you prepare for your first class in a foreign country?

Preparation removes surprises and gets the most value. First, tell us your goal: bridal, event, daily confidence, photoshoot, or Korean-style technique. Send photos of looks you love—not celebrities' faces, but makeup styles and colors that appeal to you. We'll assess which suit your skin and feature, and which don't. Bring or describe your current skincare routine: sunscreen, moisturizer, any sensitivities or active acne. Wear a shirt you don't mind makeup on—foundation and powder dust happens. Arrive with clean, moisturized skin (not heavily sunscreened or oiled). If you speak Vietnamese, good; our team speaks English fluently, so language isn't a barrier. Bring a phone or camera to record steps if you want (optional). Ask us for a quote on WhatsApp at least 2–3 days ahead—we'll confirm timing, exact location, and what to expect. No pressure, no upsell; we'll tailor the session to your actual needs.

Which other services pair with a makeup class?

If you're visiting Ho Chi Minh City for an event or wedding, you might combine a class with other services. Bridal makeup and makeup at your hotel suit brides and bridesmaids who want the look done for them on the day, not just the skill. Photoshoot makeup requires color and technique that photographs—often different from everyday. Hair styling completes a bridal or event look; we coordinate makeup and hair so they complement, not clash. If you're learning Korean-style makeup, a class teaches gradient lip, puppy-liner eye, and glass-skin base—specific technique that benefits from live guidance. Group and bridesmaids makeup works if you're traveling with friends or family and want to book a session together; we teach technique while preparing everyone for an event.

What should you check before booking a makeup class?

Confirm the logistics.

  • Studio or your hotel? (We travel to hotels in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi; Da Nang and Hoi An by request.)
  • What time? (Morning light is best for undertone assessment; evening works too.)
  • Duration: 2, 3, or 4 hours? (Longer = more detail and practice.)
  • Language: fluent English-speaking instructor? (Yes—we teach in English. Confirm, don't assume.)

Clarify what you'll learn.

  • Your specific goal (bridal, event, everyday, photoshoot, Korean style)? Ask us to outline the session before you pay.
  • Will products be provided, or bring your own? (We supply for class; you can buy afterward or use your own if you prefer.)
  • Do you get written notes or video recording? (We provide step-by-step notes. Video is optional—ask.)

Ask about heat and humidity prep.

  • Is the class focused on climate-proof technique? (Essential in Vietnam. If the instructor doesn't mention sweat-resistant setting or tropical-climate specific products, ask why.)
  • Will you practice in the heat, or indoors only? (Indoors is fine for learning; outdoors briefly tests the look.)

Check the instructor's background.

  • Do they work with mixed and Western skin tones? (Not all makeup artists do. Our team does; ask for portfolio examples in your skin tone range.)
  • Have they worked with foreigners before? (Language and cultural cues matter. We have.)
